Cast not a clout 'til May be out!
So we are into the second third of the photo project already. I have been told that it gets worse from now on! That's encouraging...

Day 152. Snapchap's May Review of His 365project.org Pictures. So here it is; my "cheat" shot for the month. The video review does seem to have become a bit of a habit! The music probably won't be to everyone's taste but I thought the title "Rewind" was very apt. Best viewed in 720 HD.

Day 151. ...my only sunshine...
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are grey You'll never know dear, how much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away" Even on the wettest and darkest of days I can go into our garden for a little sun. Believe you me, I must have photographed this little fella on a dozen different occasions for this project so far but today he made it. |
Day 150. Help me I'm drowning! I'm still snowed under with other tasks and little or no time for photography but here we go... I collect all sorts of rubbish to use as props so with the aid of a charity shop teacup, some second hand corks and a broken back scratcher and a bit of processing we have today's offering.
Day 149. Window on the world. On the back of one of our garden arbour seats lives a mirror in the shape of a mermaid. Whilst looking for something to photograph today, I looked into the mirror ans saw the reflection of the unicorn that marks the grave of one of our cats and I thought "That will do nicely".
Day 147. Turn up the heat! I might have been absent from the whole 365project thing for the last few days but I will be back and commenting when I have got over this current blue phase and wanting to jack the whole thing in. At least I saw these chilli peppers in our fruit and veg shop and thought "I could do something with those"
Day 146. If only... I have this green stuff out the front and back. I won't grace it with the name "lawn" because it is more daisies, plantains, dandelions and moss than grass. It still needs to be cut back though and after ironing and bathroom cleaning this is my least favourite task. I wanted to have a go at stop motion animation and this was it. No sound or music, just me savaging the greensward.
Day 143. Home on the range. We have a built-in, cast iron cooking range in this old Victorian money pit that we call home. Alas it doesn't work any more so we use it as a home for ornaments and plants. The copper seahorse came from Montenegro and is quite at home on the range. I've had a play with the processing to give it an overall glow and soft appearance.
Day 142. A brush with the lore. My child bride is a source of constant amazement. I've whined about my increasing baldness (sorry "male pattern hair loss") on a couple of occasions now so she pointed me to one of the books in her collection ("The Element Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells" by Judika Illes) and sure enough there are three pages on curing baldness and growing more hair. Folklore, eh? Tchoh! Still, it did give me the corny title for today's shot. It also reminded me of this old track from Winger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJdTlTUtteI
Day 140. What we think, we become. Do you recognise this picture? It is a shot of a brass sun plaque. Well, that was what it was supposed to be but as I was setting everything up in the garden (to make the most of the sunshine) I noticed our garden Buddha contemplating the string of lights around his shrine and I just fell in love with the shot.
Day 139. I've cracked. Weekends always see me a bit rushed to take and upload a picture and today was no exception. That is until I came across this little face. It is one of a pair of china King Charles Spaniels that we bought many years ago because we liked the cracked effect of the glaze (we still do!)So it was out with the macro lens and up with the picture
Day 137. Give me a hand bro'. It was Clint Eastwood who said "A hand out is what you get from the government, a hand up is what you get from a friend." in "Any Which Way You Can". Too true! Now I look at this picture, a couple of things strike me. Number one, it looks like I am dropping me and, number two, my bald patch is coming on a treat!
Day 136. That's the question. 136 / 365 I'm not religious but I do like church architecture and art. I didn't get married in a church because I haven't been christened and I didn't want to be a hypocrite. I do notice that church attendance is dropping so that's why I decided to do this picture today.
The backdrop is a duvet, the words are based on the traditional kids poem (with my own twist on the matter). The words follow the fingers and hand cos I am a clever clogs and know how to do it! |
Day 135. Dark side... of the spoon! We have had this pierced spoon for over twenty years, from the days when we used to do a lot of Chinese cooking. Since moving to the @rse end of nowhere where there is no gas and Chinese cooking isn't really an option with electricity, we haven't really used it. Until today that is. Just in case anyone thinks that I listen to nothing but Pink Floyd, today has been a day of Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Max Emanuel Cencic and Rolando Villazon so far. These are the modelling straws I used way back here http://365project.org/steampowered/365/2013-04-22 (and I wish there had been an orange and a violet one). Shot against a black background then a little bit of Photoshop magic to make the blur on the spectrum.
Day 134. Planet bookshelf. I've seen a few of these and wanted to have a go at one myself. So I photographed one bookshelf plus contents and turned it into a world of books. These books are but a small part of my current studies into the causes that make normally sensible men voluntarily go to war and fight and sometimes pay the ultimate price.
Probably best viewed large. I should have said that the quote in the centre was by children's author, Arnold Lobel. |
Day 133. Take me to your leader. I saw this papier maché mask in a craft shop and it really spooked me out but not enough to stop me buying it to play with. It is great for seeing how different lighting looks. Anyway, to keep it safe I put it onto my friendship globe in my study (the one I used for http://365project.org/steampowered/365/2013-04-18) and in a split second saw that I had today's shot staring me in the face (very creepily!)
Day 132. As like as... two peas in a pod. Now, I did have a different shot using British Two Pence pieces (commonly known as "two pees") but it was so corny, not even I could bring myself to upload it! I think I would like to dedicate this shot to @deeganp
Day 131. Sometimes there isn't anything else to do... ...but dive into a good book. Today's pic is dedicated to my father who is eighty three today (happy birthday Dad). He is the person who gave me a love of books and reading. In case you were wondering the book is "Red Country", the latest best seller by Joe Abercrombie. A cracking good read. No books were harmed in the making of this picture.
Day 130. This is so right... on so many levels. Sorry for the dreadful pun. I have lost my way a little bit and needed to get a photograph uploaded that showed I had put some thought into my photography rather than just grabbing a smartphone shot. This one is in fact two macro shots which I then focus stacked in Photoshop to get both spirit levels in sharp focus. The fun bit was trying to use my old tripod to mount the EOS 7D (I bought the Manfrotto shown above because the old one wasn't man enough for the job - it still isn't!)
Day 129. Photoshop Calculations - one way of doing it 129 / 365 I haven't done one of these for a long while but I hope to explain how I used the Photoshop Calculations command to produce the Black and White shot that I did the other day. You will have to bear with me as I try to explain the reasons behind it all so it does go on a bit.

Day 128. "Ti amo". Mrs Snapchap returns to her office tomorrow and we spent her last day at her parents. I took Mum in law to hospital for her thyroid check and an X-ray where she fell and did something to her wrist whilst Donna stayed with my Father-in-law to keep an eye on him. On returning home I offered to cook a nice veggie Minestrone for our last meal of the break and for a change I decided to make the carrots heart shaped because I love her so much.
Day 127. South Downs Way. Effectively today is the last day of Mrs Snapchap's holiday (although we do have tomorrow off to take her Mum to hospital) so we went for a nice seven mile ramble on the South Downs, rescued a lamb, fell over the remains of a Churchill tank and generally had a brilliant time. The picture above is looking from close to Rackham towards Amberley with Bignor Hill in the distance. It looked a bit feeble in colour so I used the Photoshop calculations command to make it into a beefy B&W. The quality isn't brilliant because it was shot on my camera phone (you didn't really think that I was going to lug ten pounds weight of camera gear on a seven mile hike did you?). Probably best viewed large
Day 126. Pretty in pink? Time is still of the essence today but I saw a shot that I just had to take. Why there are pink bars on this window (and the one next to it), I don't know. Next door on one side is a barber and the other is an Italian restaurant but this looks like some sort of bar. Anyway, the simplicity and the brightness caught my eye.
Day 125. Moss covered tomb. Actually, it isn't... It was part of a gentleman's folly that didn't quite get built. Down at Wood's Mill Wildlife Trail in Sussex, I came across this moss covered, mock tomb. Wishing to know more about it I found some details on the sites notice board. In the 1930s the wealthy owner of the land and house had planned to build some grand gardens and had bought some of the stuff to do it with. He then got nicked by the police for murdering his chauffeur and went to the gallows. His grand gardens never happened and portions of the folly remain, slowly decaying and being grown over.
Day 124. Guildford Nuffield Hospital. I have just spent the day with father-in-law whilst he got his next bout of cancer treatment which has left him very drained. In the twenty minutes between one set of injections and the next I had to get out just to get some fresh air and take a picture. Mum and Dad in law have now been delivered home again and I have fought rush hour and bank holiday traffic home and am feeling depressed enough to go for a curry and a beer.
Day 122. A small miracle. May Day and Mrs Snapchap and I climbed up to Chanctonbury Ring very early this morning to watch the local Morris Men bring in summer time. This little fella had been born just a couple minutes before we arrived and Mum was washing him. As the Morris men danced and sang their stuff, a patch of vagrant sunshine appeared and as the last notes floated away, this little lamb wobbled to his feet and headed for the udder. Pure magic... It was bloody cold up there but still pure magic! If you want to see a couple more pics then please head on over to http://dribbly.weebly.com/1/post/2013/05/pagan-rites.html where I have made a small slideshow.
